I completed the M.A. in OD with FGU and now I'm in HOD, starting in Spring 2007. I've been with Lockheed Martin since 2004, in a senior staff OD role, and before that spent 15 years in learning solutions and then org development. I love facilitating generative dialogue within groups striving for change and improvement, groups that have big goals. I get involved in projects which use technology enablers - not because I love the tools but because I think we need to get better at working with distributed, diverse groups. Inter-group collaborative action planning needs to be supported effectively and there is still a lot to learn.
What is your research about?
Right now I'm focused on embodied trauma & healing and group / thought control ("cult") contexts

I just completed DOCS last weekend. It was very worthwhile, though I am ready to move on to new adventures.
I am enrolled in an online 702 overview and am working on defining the in-depth portion.
I participated in the intensive 753A in Anaheim but still have to complete the follow up papers to receive my 3 credits. I will be incorporating some of the readings from the Participatory Action Research seminar in the summer session.
At the summer session, I plan to begin some study into 703.
I can relate to your comments about turns and new and emerging directions. My experience has been that any time I state my intetions NOT to study some area, I end up venturing into that area eventually.
I'm in the process of defining 717 over the next two months. Much of my professional experience has been in learning, communication, and group dynamics, working as a consultant or more recently as internal staff. However, I am taking a significant turn in my HOD studies, so I'm shaping my 717 work to fit that new and emerging direction. So I'm afraid I can be of much help. But I will say that you don't have to fine tune your learning plan entirely. Leaving open possibilities is quite acceptable.
Did you sign up for DOCs? How are you planning to contract for 753A or 702? Are these some of the first KAs you expect to complete?
I am attempting to finalize my learning plan (which I started in March). I have pretty much lined up the faculty (and some alternates) who would be my preference for assessing each KA, but I don't currently have a specific plan for Organizatonal Studies. I was wondering if you had any wisdom or experience to share in how you went about fulfilling 717. It looks like much of your professional experience has been in the area of organizational work and has some interesting tie ins with your inquiry areas.
For Kansas City, aside from the blues clubs do you think it is worth the trouble to rent a car or do you think having a car is an unnecessary aggravation?
The mall is literally attached to the hotel. The blues clubs require a cab ... a few can share a ride. Fun! Last year Georgia Persons, Fred Steier ... and a few other faculty went along, too. It's worth going early to get a table. The place was packed as the evening progressed. :)
Patti, sounds good, will enjoy the chance to meet up and get to know you at summer session and beyond. I read that the hotel has many places nearby to eat, but, are they within walking distance, or would we need a cab? I enjoy jazz and blues, so it sounds like my kind of spot. :)
Yes, I'll definitely be there. Why don't we share a meal sometime? There is a mall right next to the hotel where lots of places to eat are, too ... all price ranges. And there are good blues and jazz clubs. We saw a wonderful show last summer.

Hope all is well with you and you had a good holiday this week. How are things? Will you be at winter session?
Cheers!
It was nice to see you at summer session, if even in passing. Did you enjoy the session? Hope our paths cross again soon.
